Located along the Chennai coastline, the renovation of MGM Resort’s South Indian fine dining restaurant was approached with a focus on spatial volume, material longevity, and the ocean-facing context. The large volume of the space was balanced through bespoke printed art panels suspended from the ceiling, adding visual texture while drawing from regional references in a contemporary format.
The material and colour palette was kept earthy, with muted greens and terracotta tones used across the interiors to create warmth without overpowering the setting. Given the restaurant’s direct exposure to the coast, weathering and maintenance were key considerations in the design process, and materials were selected accordingly for durability and long-term performance in a high-humidity environment. Stone surfaces were used extensively for ease of upkeep, while terracotta elements were introduced as accents within the space.
The design was intentionally kept restrained to ensure that the primary focus remained on the ocean views. The outdoor seating was therefore treated minimally, with subtle lighting used to support the ambience without competing with the natural setting.
