Project - Courtyard Farmhouse
Area - 3000 sq ft
Date of completion - 2016
Location - Chennai, India
This farmhouse is our modern interpretation of the traditional mutram, or central courtyard — designed to draw in natural light and anchor the home in calmness and clarity. At its core, a skylight fitted with custom rubber moulds casts ever-changing patterns of light and shadow, adding depth and movement to the space throughout the day.
Inspired by colonial Indian architecture, the house features wide colonnaded corridors that wrap around the structure, creating a seamless transition between indoors and out. Sliding-folding glass panels and adjustable louvers ensure privacy without compromising views or ventilation, allowing the home to stay open, airy, and in constant conversation with the landscape.
This project is a quiet blend of tradition and modernity — rooted in form, light, and the essence of slow living.
