The architecture of this home was heavily inspired by colonial Indian residences with wide colonnaded corridors that envelop the house. We provided completely openable sliding-folding glass surfaces to ensure there was adequate privacy and natural light while allowing for uninterrupted views into the landscape! The central double height space has been envisioned as a contemporary take on a “mutram” or courtyard with a customised skylight throwing interesting shadow patterns and an attic space for the kids to play. The bridge between the traditional and modern is highlighted by the wooden louvered facade pairing with concrete punctured walls, while the typical open to sky concept was replaced with rubber trellis which is still ensures the space is bathed in natural light.
